The Monroe County Fair is an affordable American family tradition that teaches kids about agriculture and technology in a fun-filled setting. It is scheduled for July 15-19, 2009. By donating, you're helping create the "giggles" which have been a part of our community since 1823. Here are some examples:


  • “Giggles” always abound! Listen for them as kids watch the antics of pigs, or the rolling pigeons or the bunnies that squirm and wiggle their noses.

  • “Giggles” can be heard as kids squish oats between their toes in the oat bin or feel a ladybug crawling on their hands as part of the integrated pest management activity.

  • “Giggles” are non-stop as kids “learn to drive” in the Toddler Games Driving School.

  • “Giggles” are everywhere from the horse arena to the livestock barn to the midway.

  • “Giggles” are just the joy of an ice cream cone or the taste of cotton candy.

  • Fair “Giggles” are a tradition that has been part of our community since 1823, and the Fair Association needs help to make those “Giggles” continue for the 183rd time.

  • It costs money to make “Giggles” happen, so any amount of money helps the fair and the “Giggles” it brings.

The Monroe County Fair Association has launched a fundraising campaign called, Buy a Kid a Giggle, designed to raise money for the 183rd Monroe County Fair. Said Executive Director Fran Tepper, “The fair costs around $225,000 to produce. With the struggling economy, sponsorships and donations are uncertain and expenses are rising. The Fair Association wants to keep the fair affordable for everyone and has to find a new way to raise funds. Paying a buck to insure that kids have an opportunity for a good giggle is a pretty great investment.”

The campaign, reminds everyone that the fair can bring “Giggles” to so many. Every dollar helps to make that happen. Anyone can “buy” as many “Giggles” as he chooses, but even one “Giggle” helps. “Buy Giggles” either on-line at www.mcfair.com or stop at the Fair Office or any of the events held at the Fair and Expo Center to make a tax deductible donation.

And keep those “Giggle Bucks” coming. We want “Giggles” to be heard all across the state!
